Apple offers bumper cases and full refund for iPhone 4

After almost a month of denials regarding the iPhone 4 antenna glitch and their recent press release officially admitting that their new iphone 4 has issue on antenna reception and the accusations shot back and forth between Apple and its users over the “Death Grip”, Steve Jobs took the podium at Apple headquarters to clarify the issue. But as expected instead of advising a recall of all the 3 million units deployed and sold, he offered every customers a FREE CASE or Bumpers to mitigate antenna reception problems, and the option of full refund for “defective” devices purchased within 30 days.

Jobs said, users can apply for free case on the Apple website. And for customers who have already spent $30 for the purchase of the said “Bumper”cases from Apple, will receive a refund but those cases bought from third-party manufacturers will not receive any refund.

A lot of customers clamor over this apparent inequity of offer considering only a small number of people bought iPhone cases from Apple since only limited stocks were available upon launch.

The offer for free cases will continue through September 30, at which point Jobs claims Apple will reevaluate the situation – suggesting a new design might eliminate the need for cases if Apple engineers are able to cook up workaround by that point.

Apple will also dole out full returns on the iPhone 4 for the next 30 days, without the usual restocking fee. When asked if new AT&T customers could be released from two-year contracts they signed if they opted for a refund on the phone, Jobs claimed he “thought so,” but offered no firm guarantee.
