Firmware update for iPhone 4 will resolve antenna issue

Recently, Apple received queries about poor signal strength of their new iPhone 4G. Consumers were not satisfied with their response that poor signal is due to the way you grip and handle the handset. But thanks to David Murphy from PC Mag for suggesting how an update of iPhone’s operating system could solve signal strength issue. When a hand is touching the black bands on the antenna on the outside, the mobile OS is unable to identify any connection. He further explained how a software can fix hardware issue.
iOS 4.0.1 is an update of iPhone operating system which is due to be out soon. Many has speculated that this software update may just resolve the antenna issue. The update would enable the operating software to identify and adapt to the fluctuations in the signal level caused when the hands are held close to the device’s antenna. The software update may not totally bar signal interference but it would enable the iPhone 4 to get more control over the signals.
Many also wonder how a firmware could resolved the “death grip” hardware problem. According to David Murphy,
” when a users hand is in close proximity or touches the black bands of the antenna located on the perimeter of the device, the mobile OS is unable to distinguish any kind of a network connection. With iOS 4.0.1, the mobile operating system would be better adapt at distinguishing this situation and making the necessary adjustments as required. This update certainly seems to be a better solution then the Bumpers that were being touted when this problem first arose.”
“Hands close to the device’s antenna disrupts the signal to the extent that the iPhone’s software can’t identify the connection. A new firmware fix would allow iPhones to better recognize and adapt to these wireless fluctuations, ultimately benefiting one’s signal regardless of hardware interference,” he added.

Stumbled into this site by chance but I’m sure glad I clicked on that link. You definitely answered all the questions I’ve been dying to answer for some time now. Will definitely come back for more of this. Thank you so much
From the reviews I’ve seen, the iPhone 4 still has better reception than the 3GS even with the attenuation. So yes, you’ll see degradation, but still better upload and download than a 3GS. Especially since the 4 supports HSUPA and the 3GS doesn’t. It’s a questionable design to be sure; why couldn’t they just build in some kind of bridge to prevent the attenuation in the first place? But for the most part it seems the 4 is catching flack for an improvement in quality. I don’t have a 4, so I can’t test this myself, but I’d be interested to see the 3GS side by side in any showing of 4 degradation issues
I truly appreciate this blog article. Will read on…
I have never seen nice site like this. Thanks Dan.
