Google remotely removes apps from Android devices

When users may have installed malicious apps into their iPhones, Apple technology is capable of remotely removing the installed software from the device. The user will notification to their device that an application does not meet the Apple standard and it shall be uninstalled remotely. Apple possesses the ability to remotely remove apps from the iPhone and that they have used their powers to delete apps that don’t meet their terms of service.

Apps with a little nudity and the Ulysses graphic novel simple faced the wrath of Apple censorship… which somehow created angry forums in many weblogs.

Now, Google have hit the headlines today after it emerged that they have done the APPLE WAY; by removing some apps from its Android operating system they don’t like for security reason.

Google has used their ability after they discovered that two free applications had “intentionally misrepresented their purpose in order to encourage user downloads, but they were not designed to be used maliciously, and did not have permission to access private data – or system resources beyond permission.” Google was forced to adapt the “remote application removal feature” to get rid of some malicious applications from Android phones. It’s likely Google will have to use it again, but they’re obviously going to act quickly if they believe their customers’ security is in doubt.

Google is posed with a great challenge as to when to use this power over Android user as most do not want strict censorship just like what Apple does. But security issues that need immediate addressing does seem to be a separate issue in itself.
