How to update Samsung Galaxy S i9000 ROM to Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 XXJVP

The iPhone killer, Samsung Galaxy S is very well known for its software update leaks. Initially Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) is powered by Android 2.1 commonly known as Eclair, then there was the Anroid 2.2 Froyo leak. Then there was the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread leak and then just recently, a Gingerbread update, the Android 2.3.4 leaked. If you’re not aware, the leaked ROM has been completed since June 3rd.
The leaked ROM version XWJVH Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread is said to be more stable and smooth. It is however only available for Samsung Galaxy S i9000 version. In other words the US variant may not be compatible with this leaked ROM.
If you are interested in updating your device, here is how you do it.
Disclaimer:
Proceed at your own risk. This process needs to be done very carefully. However, we are not responsible if your device gets bricked or damaged during the process. But there are very minor chances of bricking your Phone by this method.
First you need to download the ROM from Samfirmware. You may visit the XDA-developers forum and read carefully every piece of information and instructions relating to Android 2.3.4 leaked rom.
Pre-flashing procedure:
- You have to understand that flashing the rom with this leaked version VOIDS the warranty of your device. But warranty though can be possibly claimed when you unroot the device.
- This is a Factory-Reset for your device so you need to perform FULL SYSTEM back up using Titanium Backup.
- Make sure to copy the contents of SD card to your PC as it will remove the cache from your memory card.
- It is also important that you install the latest KIES debuted as KIES2 on your device.
- Before you proceed with the flashing of ROM, make sure your battery has at least 50% juice.
- Take note of the APN setting for your internet connection as the rooting process will reset the APN settings.
- Close the KIES completely if it is running and disable any firewalls and antivirus if any.
Instructions:
- Download and Extract the .zip file (Zip file of Gingerbread 2.3.4) on your Desktop. Password for this file is androidadvices.com [Androidadvices.com] or the I9000XXJVP.zip file from Samfirmware.com
- Reboot your phone to DOWNLOAD mode by switching it off and turning it on again by pressing the “Volume Down” key, “Home” key and “Power” button together until you see the yellow android character with a sweeper with “DON’T TURN OFF THE TARGET” message.
- Run ODIN and click on PIT to choose s1_odin_20100512.pit file found in the folder where you extracted the downloaded zip ROM.
- Make Re-partition is checked.
- Click on PDA and choose
CODE_I9000XXJVP_CL264642_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 - Click on Phone and select
MODEM_I9000XXJVP_REV_00_CL1019177.tar.md5. - Finally, click on CSC and select
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVP.tar.md5.
Once done, connect your phone to the computer via USB and once you see the device connected in ODIN, hit the Start button. ODIN will start flashing the ROM. The phone is automatically rebooted when flashing is successfully completed. Unplug the USB cable. After rebooting, switch off your phone again and then long press the volume up key and HOME button simultaneously to bring it to recovery mode. Choose Wipe data/factory reset and afterwards select Wipe Cache partition. Do a final REBOOT. This will remove all extra unwanted files left on your phone.
Viola! You have successfully updated your Samsung galaxy to 2.3.4 XXJVP
