Hackers use QR codes to push Android malware

Be extra careful where you stick your phone camera? Some QR codes are malicious.Hackers are using QR codes to push Android malware. Once a user scans the QR code, the code redirects them to a site that will install a Trojan on their Android smart phones. Kaspersky, seller of the $10 Kaspersky antivirus Android app said that Android malware are getting contagious and can spread into your system in the most unexpected way. This virus is different as this attacks in the form of malicious QR codes. When you point your camera to the QR code, the phone turns those random square images into a URL. Just like any other form of URL obfuscation like shorteners, it can go to a naughty unwanter sites. These sites could give you the virus.

This sounds alarming. This is how the virus get into your phone.

  • Malicious QR Code starts a download of Virus.APK
  • You pull down the notification bar and click on the downloaded APK to install it
  • The APK presents it’s list of (probably ridiculous) permissions
  • You ignore the permissions and click install
  • You now have a virus

So to be safe, install an antivirus app in your Android phone.

Should I buy iPhone 5*?

Should I wait for iPhone 5? Should I buy it?

Gizmodo has just released its first review of the iPhone 5. The review is based on a mock-up of the new phone using specs from the leaked cases. Well their review will not be very different from the officially sanctioned reviews that may come out next week. Here’s what Gizmodo has to say of the much awaited release of iPhone 5.

The New Size. The iphone 4 looks very industrial with square pegs and stiff bricks on round holes and fleshy hand. iPhone 5 form factor is not much of a departure from the 4, but it will surely look skinnier enough to make it more hand friendlier. with its slim form and tapered back, the iphone 5 just fits better on your palm, against your face, and in your pocket giving a warmer feel than the iphone 4. Microsoft Smartphone with Variable Detachable Accessories

Phone and gadget manufacturers have came up with various attachable and detachable accessories for years and none have became successful commercially. Now it is time for Microsoft’s R & D to try their own detachable accessories. They came up with a slider phone with multiple detachable interchangeable accessories ranging from gaming keypad, second display, to additional battery. It looks like the usual slider phone, but the sliding keyboard part can be removed and replaced with other things. Read the rest of this entry »

Bendable batteries for Samsung Galaxy Flexible Skin

Now good news to gadget geeks. Your hopes for seeing a flexible skin phone in the future will soon be materialized. Designer Heyon You has drawn a pretty great concept of what Samsung might do with flexible AMOLED displays one day. The concept is called Samsung Galaxy Skin because it be flexed, bent, and can be adjusted to the tasks at hand.

And now Stanford University came out with a transparent Lithium-Ion battery that is also quite flexible and bendable. This is indeed perfect for placing into the Galaxy Skin concept someday.

One good thing to note is that these flexible Li-Ion batteries retain the capacity almost as good as the metal collector-based can and it is cost-effective as far as manufacturing is concerned.
