Colorectal cancer is common among elderly people aging 50 years or older, people whose diet is high in protein and saturated fats and low in fibers, and people whose intake of alcohol is also high.
If you belong to this high risk group,  get screened through colonoscopy. Studies revealed that most malignant tumors of the colon and rectum have developed from benign polyps. Once malignant, it can invade and damage adjacent tissues and organs. Cancer cells can metastasis to other parts of the body, mostly in liver and lungs forming new tumors.  If a malignant polyp is found at an early stage, your doctor can perform effective treatment like the use of  surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy.
